The Vision: Stairways to Heaven

SynSisal® is well known in commercial interior design circles for the residential feel that it brings to hospitality, office, and retail spaces. But home owners and residential interior designers want to know: how does it hold up in actual people's homes?

Turns out: pretty well. Just ask Brian Paquette, a Seattle-based interior designer, published author, furniture line creator, and social media star with 100k followers on Instagram. We invited him to visit our downtown showroom, where he perused our swatch wall, consulted with our design team, and provided specs for his ambitious home renovation project for a modern tri-level urban spread not too far from our headquarters (which involved a somewhat tricky staircase with a 90-degree turn at the bottom landing).

Interview With Designer Brian Paquette

Curran: So it sounds like you were in a "Love it or Leave it" situation with your home a few months ago.

Brian: Right. Believe it or not, when you reached out, my husband and I had just decided to completely re-furnish our home after deciding not to move and I was about to to reach out to you...so this is kismet.

Curran: How did the staircases turn out?

Brian: Oh. 100x better than I ever could have hoped for. I was worried with a synthetic sisal that it might look fake. I grew up in the northeast and was used to natural sisal in the home so it was important to me that the flooring look and feel authentic.

Curran: It really seems to complement that earthy almost coastal style in your approach to the reno.

Brian: 100%. And the dogs love it too. Before the remodel, the stairs were just bare hardwood floors. The dogs would be slipping down the staircase and we'd hear these periodic thuds. Since installing the SynSisal®, no more thuds!

Curran: Any issues with the install?

Brian: Your staff was so helpful recommending a professional and knowledgeable installer. You really go the extra mile for your clients.

Curran: So would you recommend SynSisal® to family, friends, clients (your 100k Instagram followers)?

Brian: Absolutely! Through my design studio and work, I run across so many products and they tend to blend together. If I'm going to go out on a limb for a product, I have to personally vet it: and after my experience with SynSisal® and Curran & sisalcarpet.com, I now consider you to be part of my official "toolbelt" 🛠️.

Spotlight on SynSisal®: Astoria Weave and Canyon Border

Part of our exclusive SynSisal® collection, Astoria creates a beautiful balance between functionality and refinement in any space with its strong yet soft fibers and stylish herringbone pattern. An excellent choice for high traffic living areas, stairs, boutique businesses or commercial spaces, Astoria is made to last with its durable fibers, high lightfastness, and UV resistance. Plus, the ECONYL® yarns have inherent stain-resistance. Available in a neutral color palette, from cedar to mesquite, Astoria awaits your final touches.

SynSisal® is Curran & sisalcarpet.com’s proprietary and unique hard-wearing synthetic sisal alternative. It is unlike any other product on the marketplace for how it looks and performs in contract and hospitality settings. While there are other products out there that look like sisal, many are unbacked polypropylene which may be easy to clean but are not durable enough to withstand heavy foot traffic.

Our SynSisal® weaves are a sustainable choice in flooring. Made from 100% recycled materials (from fishing nets to recycled nylon carpeting to repurposed materials), these contract-grade weaves have low VOC contribution and are 100% regenerable.
